Math

In Kindergarten math, our young learners explore, discover, and build confidence through hands-on activities and problem-solving. Using the Bridges in Mathematics curriculum, students develop a strong foundation in numbers and shapes while nurturing a love for math.

Key Areas of Focus

  • Counting & Comparing Numbers: Students build number sense by counting, recognizing patterns, and comparing numbers up to 100, with a special emphasis on mastering numbers up to 20.

  • Introduction to Addition & Subtraction: Through real-world problem-solving, students explore how numbers come together and break apart, laying the groundwork for addition and subtraction.

  • Exploring Shapes: By sorting, comparing, and drawing shapes, students develop spatial awareness and early geometry skills.

  • Shape Composition: Using puzzles and interactive activities, students combine shapes to create new ones, fostering creativity and critical thinking.

At St. Elizabeth’s, we make math engaging, joyful, and accessible, helping every child build confidence and curiosity in their learning journey.

Language Arts

At St. Elizabeth’s, our kindergarteners build strong reading foundations through the Expeditionary Learning (EL) Curriculum, where literacy comes to life through exploration, discovery, and hands-on learning.

Building Reading Skills

  • Skills Block: Students develop essential reading skills in small, targeted groups tailored to their needs. Weekly mastery checks help teachers track progress and provide the right support.

  • Walk to Read: This program allows kindergarten and 1st-grade students to join the best-fit reading groups across classrooms, ensuring every child is challenged and supported at their level.

EL Modules – Learning Through Exploration

Beyond reading skills, students engage in exciting, hands-on modules that integrate science, social studies, and literacy:

  • Toys & Play: How do we make playing together fun? What makes toys special?

  • Weather Wonders: How does weather affect us? What stories does the sky tell?

  • Enjoying & Appreciating Trees: Why are trees important? How do they help our community?

Through inquiry, collaboration, and creative projects, our young learners develop curiosity, communication skills, and a lifelong love for learning.
