Math

Fourth grade builds on previous math skills while introducing more complex concepts and problem-solving strategies. Using the Bridges in Mathematics curriculum, students develop a deeper understanding of numbers, patterns, and real-world applications.

Key Focus Areas Include:

  • Mastering multi-digit multiplication and division.

  • Expanding understanding of fractions, including addition and subtraction.

  • Exploring decimals and their connection to fractions.

  • Working with geometry, symmetry, and measurement.

  • Applying problem-solving skills to real-world math challenges.

Through hands-on learning, discussions, and engaging activities, students build confidence in their math abilities and see how numbers connect to the world around them.

Language Arts

In fourth grade, students continue to develop strong literacy skills through the Expeditionary Learning (EL) Curriculum, which emphasizes inquiry, critical thinking, and the exploration of real-world topics.

EL Modules – Learning Through Exploration:

Fourth-grade students engage in dynamic, project-based modules that integrate literacy with social studies, science, and history:

  • Connecting with Colorado History: What can we learn from the history of our state? How does Colorado’s past shape the present?

  • Research: Animal Defense Mechanisms: How do animals defend themselves? What can we learn from nature’s survival strategies?

  • Colorado Geography: What is special about Colorado’s geography, and how does it influence our daily lives?

  • Government and Economics: How does government function, and how do economic systems affect our world?

  • Student-Led Novel Studies: How do we analyze and discuss novels in a group, building comprehension and communication skills?

In addition to these modules, students work on developing strong writing habits, focusing on organization, clarity, and creativity in their work. The fourth-grade curriculum provides opportunities for students to engage in research, critical analysis, and discussions, fostering a deep understanding of language arts and connecting them to the world around them.
