Leadership Letter

May 12, 2023 - May 12, 2033

Dear St. E’s Community,

May always reminds me that we are fast approaching a bittersweet time — the ending of another successful, inspirational, and rewarding school year. I am, of course, always a little sad to see our usually vibrant and active campus quiet down, but it’s hard not to feel the buzz of excitement radiating through students getting ready for a summer of fun.

For some of you, we give you your wings to soar as you graduate from St. E’s, and I hope you know you will be greatly missed. But you also have an entire school’s worth of cheerleaders and supporters who are waiting to see and celebrate the incredible things you accomplish.

As I look back on this spring, I am awed at the amount of community, collaboration, and learning that we fostered together. While we certainly faced challenges and had our tough moments — from which we grew and took action — there were also many fun and influential events and memories throughout the year that shone brightly in my mind.

We got together for our Fun Run, which was such a hit, where we cheered on our Staculty and our 8th graders during their kickball game and presented a beautiful trophy designed and produced by Don, our beloved security guard, who helps keep our campus safe every day. We supported our student artists and admired their artwork, while at the same time, spent time appreciating our student body’s wide range of theatrical, artistic, and musical prowess at the Spring Showcase.

And the learning and social justice that we’ve seen this year! I continue to be so impressed and inspired by every single student, from our first graders who gained a deeper understanding about air pollution to our Middle School students who staged a walk-out against gun violence; it further strengthens my faith in what we teach at our school. It matters for students to learn about and understand relevant, real-world issues  and then take a step to make the world a better place!

So as May flies by, I realize that there are many goodbyes and hellos coming soon–goodbye to a wonderful school year (and our 8th grade rockstars)–and hello to the resting, resetting, and exploring of summertime. Take a moment to look back on all the growth you’ve made this year and give yourself a pat on the back, knowing that the Staculty and I are so proud of you. It’s now time to start dreaming of a summer break that will be filled with many adventures. I can’t wait to hear all about them!

Here’s to finishing strong.

Best foot forward,

Adriana Murphy
