St. Elizabeth’s School Social Equity Workshop
April 25, 2019
6-8pm

Join us as we learn about the lives of girls around the world who are overcoming challenges to stay in school posed on them by culture, poverty, and history.

We will learn about a specific program in Haiti, the Girls Empowerment and Mentoring (GEM) program, from representatives of the Colorado Haiti Project. We will also watch the stories of four girls introduced in the film Girl Rising (www.girlrising.org). The film has fueled a growing movement of individuals, communities, and governments working to shift the way girls and girls’ education are valued.

The movie discusses some topics girls face around the world that might not be appropriate to discuss with younger children. St. Elizabeth’s students in Grade 5 and older have covered many of these topics in Social Justice Class.

We will discuss topics such as the multi-dimensional nature of poverty and how it affects girls specifically as well as how harmful power dynamics impact the lives of girls around the world and what we can do in our own lives to help break those down.

Childcare and Pizza Provided
Bake Sale supporting Colorado Haiti Project will provide some dessert options as well!
